In Narrow Neck and the Birth of Katoomba, Jim Barrett states that “In 1941 John Manson, assisted by Len Scotland and Bert Carlon, installed pitons and a hand chain on the exposed middle face.” However, the listed reference for Mansons Ladders makes no mention of Bert Carlon being involved in the installation. It mentions John and Len installing the pitons, with Dot Butler keeping the fire going.
